The topic of ISB YLP Stage 2 Essay is as follows :-

What is the ideal career which you always wanted to pursue? Do you still want to pursue the same or has it changed? How do you plan to make your ideal career a reality? (300 words max)

The following structure is proposed to write this essay :-

1st Paragraph

Use this introductory paragraph to talk about your career interests as a child/young adult highlighting your core inclination towards having a future career (Please note that it should link with the future career that you talked about in Stage 1 Essay). Be illustrative- clearly mention how did you demonstrate your inclination towards the career that you wanted to have. For example,

As a child, I had an innate fascination with solving puzzles and creating things with my hands. Whether it was assembling intricate jigsaw puzzles or constructing model airplanes, my interest in building and designing started at an early age. My parents noticed this passion and encouraged me to explore it further. They enrolled me in a summer robotics camp where I learned the basics of programming and built my first working robot. The experience ignited a fire within me, and from then on, I was determined to turn my childhood interest into a future career.

Throughout my school years, I eagerly participated in science fairs, where I consistently presented projects related to engineering and innovative technology. One year, I built a small-scale sustainable energy system that harnesses wind power, which earned me recognition and an award. These achievements solidified my dream of becoming an engineer and working on groundbreaking projects to make a positive impact on the world.

2nd Paragraph

Now connect your childhood inclination with your current passion (the one that you mentioned in Stage 1 Essay) while briefly describing all the steps that you have already taken towards it (Internships, Projects, Online Courses, Discussion with Industry Experts etc) . You can start like this- My childhood interest in building and creating has evolved into a passion for Product Management, and I have taken multiple steps to make it a realty…

3rd Paragraph

Use this to talk about what kind of role you plan to take as your full time job (Job Profile, Industry, and examples of companies) For example, Post-graduation, I plan to start my career as an Assistant Product Manager in the E-Commerce industry preferably for an early stage startup.

Then mention what are the skills you plan to develop and things you plan to learn from your job. Also mention, what activities you will pursue outside your job to make you more skilled in your career of choice.

4th Paragraph

In this, briefly talk about 2 (or max 3) activities that you will pursue at ISB to further upskill yourself in your career of choice- courses you will take, ELP, Case Competitions etc.
